Why was I charged?

This information applies to Premium SIM cards

If you incur a charge on your account, you may be confused as to what the charge is for. The following are a few reasons you may have incurred a charge. Remember, you can review a copy of all payment receipts from your account at freedompop.com/my-lines, by clicking Payment History.

You have placed an order

If you've ordered a device from freedompop.com/shop, you'll incur a charge for your purchase. Charges are processed right away, even if you submit a pre-order. You'll receive an order receipt for every purchase sent to the email address used to register your online FreedomPop account.

You've run out of minutes or text messages

If you're on the free plan, you will incur a $2 charge every time you run out of minutes or text messages. This charge will be processed automatically to the payment method on your account.

If you're on one of our paid plans or the Safety Mode plan, you will not incur any charges when you run out of minutes or text messages, unless you manually decided to add credit (more minutes or more text messages) to your account. Read this article to learn more about the Freemium plan and automatic top-ups.

You've used all of your high speed data

If you're on the free plan, and you've used all of your data, you will automatically be upgraded to the $8/per month plan with 50 minutes, 50 text messages and 500 MBs of high speed data. Read this article to learn more about the Freemium plan and automatic top ups.

You've signed up for an add-on

Whenever you sign up for an add-on (like Visual Voicemail) you'll incur the charge for this Service right away. Then, when your plan renews, you'll incur a charge for the add-on in addition to the charge for your monthly plan.

You can see the services you're enrolled in by logging into freedompop.com/my-lines. Select the line you want to manage and then select "GET/MANAGE ADD-ONS".

Your renewal date has arrived

When your renewal date arrives, you will automatically incur a charge for your plan and any Services (add-ons) you've selected. You will also incur a charge for taxes and fees. Log in at freedompop.com/my-lines to see your renewal date.

If you incur a charge on your account, you may be confused as to what the charge is for. The following are a few reasons you may have incurred a charge.

You've Placed an Order

If you have placed an order for a device (phone, tablet, hotspot, USB stick), a SIM card, or an accessory (selfie stick, virtual reality headset, powerbank etc.), you will incur a charge. This involves going through our order process and entering your payment information on our checkout page. You will receive an email receipt with your device, detailing your total cost and any plans and services you have signed up for.

Sometimes, if you purchase one product, you may be offered another at a discount price. If you have purchased more than one product you may have two accounts under the same login information. Click your name in the top right corner to switch between your accounts. You'll receive an email receipt for each order you place.

Free Trial Renewal

When you sign up for service we often offer a free trial for one of our plans or for some of our services. The free trial lasts for one month, after which you will incur the regular charge for that plan or service. Log in at my.freedompop.com to see which day your billing cycle renews.

Your device is activated, and your plan starts as soon as the device ships. This is so you have minimal setup steps, and you can begin using your device right out of the box. If you are not ready to use the device or SIM card, and you want to avoid charges, make sure to downgrade your service before your billing cycle renews.

You will be able to see your renewal charge and details about your free trial on your emailed order receipt (the free trial and the amount of the charge after the trial ends. This amount will typically be crossed out to indicate the one month free trial).

Monthly Plan and Service Charge

Your billing cycle renews every month on the same day. You are charged for your talk, text, and/or data plan along with services you have signed up for (Premium Voice, Roll Over, Visual Voicemail etc). Log in at my.freedompop.com to see which day your billing cycle renews.

You've turned Top Ups off (Safety Mode Service charge)

We use a feature called Automatic Top Ups to cover you if you exceed your data limit. This means when you get close to your limit (called reaching your data threshold) you will incur a charge. This charge (called a Top Up) puts credit on your account. The credit is used to cover any data usage that exceeds your plan limit.

You can disable Top Ups at any time, and your service will be suspended instead. In order to disable the Top Up feature, you would have to sign up for the FreedomPop Safety Mode service, which is $6.99 per month.

If you agreed to disable the Top Up feature on your account, and to sign up for the service, you would have incurred a $6.99 charge. To learn more about the Safety Mode service, please click here.

If you decide later to change your phone number, and you select a new FreedomPop provided number, you will incur a $4.99 charge.

You were charged for an Admin or Regulatory fee
