Activating the hotspot
To set up the Alcatel Link hotspot, first, make sure the device has been activated. If you purchased your product from a third-party company, visit freedompop.com/activate and create an account. If you purchased your hotspot directly from FreedomPop, skip ahead to the next step: Inserting your SIM card.
You’ll need an email address and the hotspot's serial product number -- the MEID. The hotspot’s MEID number can be found underneath the hotspot’s back cover and battery.
On the activation website, freedompop.com/activate, you will enter your email address, the hotspot’s MEID number and then you will select a plan.
Inserting the SIM card
After you have activated your hotspot, you’ll need to insert your FreedomPop SIM card. Start by removing the hotspot’s back cover and battery. After removing the battery, you will see a large white sticker with your hotspot’s serial numbers and barcodes. Directly above that sticker, you will see the metal SIM card slot.
Please note! Your hotspot’s WiFi network name and password are found on this sticker. Please take a moment to write this information down on a separate sheet of paper, and save it for later.
From the FreedomPop SIM kit, punch out the smallest size SIM, the nano-SIM, and slide it into the metal slot. Replace the battery and back cover and then press the hotspot’s power button to turn the device on.
It’s important for the hotspot to have at least 20% battery power when you first use it. If your hotspot is running on low power, use the charger (included in the box) to charge the hotspot device to at least 20%.
Once the device is on you will see a number of icons on the screen of your hotspot.
Signal Bars Icon
The Signal bars to the left, let you know how strong your signal strength is. The more bars you see, the stronger and faster your connection will be. Check coverage by going to freedompop.com/coverage to see if you have strong 4G LTE coverage available in your area.
The WiFi icon to the right of the signal bars indicates a secure connection. Once a connection has been acquired by the hotspot, the WiFi icon will turn blue. If the WiFi icon is grey, your device does not have an internet connection. Check your account at my.freedompop.com, to make sure you have data available.
The envelope icon indicates incoming SMS or text messages that have been sent to your hotspot’s account phone number. At this time, we do not utilize the texting functionality of your hotspot device. If you are in need of calling or texting service, please consider signing up for our phone service. Visit shop.freedompop.com to purchase one of our LTE SIMs for phones.
The battery icon to the far right shows you how much battery power you have left in the device. Your hotspot functions at its best with at least a 20% charge.
Connecting to the hotspot’s WiFi network
Once you can see the blue WiFi icon, and at least 1 signal bar, you can connect any WiFi capable device to the hotspot’s network. You will need the hotspot’s network password.
Remember the network name and password that you got from the sticker underneath the hotspot’s battery? You’ll use that information to connect to the hotspot’s network. If you need help connecting your device to your WiFi network, click here for help.
