Cannot connect to server message

Like many other customers, I keep receiving a General Error message that says
Oops, there was an error trying to communicate with the server. Please try again later. This has been for two days now.
I have checked the settings as per a trouble shooting guide, I have emptied the cache, do you have any other suggestions?
