Plan downgrade and fee refund
CompletedIf anyone has figured out how to downgrade plan and successfully get refund, please share.
I started with a Freedompop $50 year plan with 1GB LTE data, 1,000 minutes, 1,000 SMS. Seeing that my data usage would exceed 1GB, I later purchased the 5GB/month data at $17.99. Upon making the purchase, it becomes known that this is a 1 year plan for US$209.40 (due to prorate of the first month under the $50 plan). Well, if only its service works. I have had poor experience with its data (often only get notifications and email refreshes after I connect to WiFi) and voice (poor voice quality) qualities. I am in the NYC area and there should be no excuse of coverage. A number of times, it shows full LTE signal bar, but I just cannot connect to internet. I had to do the Airplane mode on/off to force reconnection. Finally, I decided to cancel/downgrade the 5GB plan. Guess what? Freedompop first charge you $20 to "protect" them with top-up credit. And then nothing shows. I sent a request ticket to Freedompop and after 2 days the representative replied that even though I downgraded my 5GB service, it will only take effect until the next cycle, which is almost 1 year later. Effectively what Freedompop says: we are not going to give the money back to you and in addition, we charge you $20 for you to learn this lesson.
I am extremely frustrated by such sort of business conduct. I am sharing my experience here to hope to either get some help and directions, or at least give people the notice that be extremely careful with any plan purchase with Freedompop.
