Can FreedomPop unlock my phone previously with its free plan?

A few years ago, I had a free plan with FreedomPop before FP being bought by the current company, and FP sent me a phone (Kyocera Hydro Icon). It was CDMA and using Sprint network. I don't remember well, but FreedomPop seemed to give out locked phones, correct? How can I check if the phone is locked or unlocked? If locked, can they now unlock my phone, no longer with any plan of FreedomPop or another company?
