I just bought a new unlocked BLU phone and have received the 3 month prepaid SIM I bought from Amazon. I know I need to activate the SIM and have the app on my phone, but I don't know what order to do them in. It's complicated a little by my not having adequate tower coverage in the rural area I live in, so I won't actually be able to call anyone or receive data until I am in a more populated place. Should I just go ahead and insert the SIM and also install the app, or should I wait until I'm in a place to make and receive data? And, still, what order should I do inserting the SIM, installing the app, and registering the SIM? And what's the easiest way to register the SIM?

    Thank you!

Also, I am trying to get by without registering Google Services on this phone. Do I need that to use the app?

    Hello Fred Wolters!

Thank you for contacting FreedomPop, and welcome, we're happy to have you on board!

We will gladly assist you. :) Upon reviewing the account associated with your profile we're able to see you've already activated your account.

Make sure your BLU phone is compatible. Our SIM cards are compatible with GSM unlocked devices running on Android 4.3 or + / iOS 8.2 or higher. You'd also need to insert your SIM card and configure APN Settings. Check out this support link for more information.

Be advised, it's not necessary to be connected to a WiFi connection while configuring APN settings. Please note, if you're in an area where there is no coverage, even if APN settings are configured you'll not be able to use the service. As long as you are using a compatible device, you've configured APN settings, installed the FreedomPop app and you're in an area with coverage you'll be able to use the service.

If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to give us a shout.

Thanks! I was able to get everything working, I think. I like that I'm able to make calls with wifi only when I'm not near a cell tower. With other ISPs I have had to use workarounds such as TextMe to make phone calls which have a lot of advertising and don't work very well. Today I was where I could get data and I got it working but had to make one adjustment which I did not see on your help pages. On my android 8 phone there is a choice to make: in Mobile Data there are choices for "Preferred Data Type" -- 2g/3g/4g {the default}, 3g/4g, or 2g. When I selected 3g/4g, my data started to work.

Also, is it better to make calls by selecting your Messaging app or by selecting the Phone icon that comes with the phone, or do they both do the same thing. But with your Messaging app I can't see the contacts I have entered, just the dial pad.

I made a few experimental calls using data only to a friend in the same room, and the call quality was pretty bad! She could hear me ok but said her voice was echoing at her end, and her voice at my end was breaking up a lt. Are there any adjustments I could make?
