SIM Upgrade for Mobile Hot Spots?

Novatel MiFi 2 is not working (as in devices are 'connecting', but no WiFi). Went to My.Freedompop.com/upgrade, and there is no info about upgrading the SIM Card, or if it's even necessary. Would like my Hot Spot to work...
